Start Lists- what, where, when and How

I thought I would refresh the league coache’s memory around start lists. If you coach a tean, it is your responsibility to send your team manager/coordinator a start list before Tuesday of the week prior to your weekend race. For those of you racing this weekend, please send your managers/coordinators your start lists ASAP. If there are 2 coaches on your team, do work out a schedule with your co-worker around who will be submitting for what race (there are 4 league races, so maybe you can do 2 and they can do the other 2)- this way you won’t forget and convince yourself that he/she has already done it. If you want a refresher on what a start list is or some methods of figuring out how to do your start lists, see last year’s post at: https://mhrccoach.wordpress.com/2011/01/04/start-list-whats-that/

Thanks everyone

Weekly Update: Jan 9

Good afternoon coaches!

Hope everyone has had a good weekend and a great start to their week. I wanted to give you a all an update of what this week will look like. As you all know, Glen Eden is making all the efforst in the world to make snow at every opportunity that they get…based on snow availability- we will be training on one lane all week:

Monday- Jan 9–> Make sure you have submitted your hours online by end of day today. Highschool Racing Coaches- meet Emilie in the clubhouse at 6:30pm. Tonight we will be doing a ski off with the athletes and placing them in their appropriate groups- you will be free-skiing with your groups and working on ski improvement. No gates this week. Next week will be GS gates for them. There will also be a small freestyle group and the Snowboard development team in the clubhouse starting their training this evening!

Tuesday, Jan 10–> TNT night #1. Jeff will be coaching for Heidi, Tyler, Danielle, John, Rick and Will. Meet in the clubhouse for 6:30pm for a quick meeting. We will be setting a full gate GS in the outside of the tower and a stubbie SL (with lots of room) in the inside. Coaches that have signed up for the Tuesday night certifying session are to meet Kent in the clubhouse for 6:30pm.

Wednesday, Jan 11–> K2 and J teams will all be training SL. Jeff is heading up the session for this week. All coaches to meet Jeff in front of the clubhouse for 6:30pm with skis on.

Friday, Jan 13–> Friday Training for NG and K1, discipline is Super SL. I am still looking for another coach if someone is available, please contact me asap.

Saturday, Jan 14–> JHL #2. JHL coaches, please meet myself for your session at 8:30am in front of clubhouse. all teams that are at home will be training SL. All  league coaches and apprentices, please be on snow for 7:30am.

Sunday, Jan 15th–> Hosting SL for J White Team.- all league coaches on snow for 7:30am. All teams at home will be training SL in the afternoon. Thanks to Meghan and Chloe who expressed interest in helping out with the race- much appreciated!

Other business

As you all are probably aware, this week kicks off lessons for the snow school and this means that the hill will be a little busier, please use the start of the evening to remind your racers of some hill etiquette:

– making groups of 3 or 4 before lining up for the chairlift

-no horseplay in the lift lines

– in order to use the ski school line, your racers must be with a coach, no exceptions will be made for this. If you would like to have your racers cycle through fast, I encourage you to instruct them to make use of the single line.

Please also, think about where you are stopping on the hill and try your best to keep your group in one condensed line or cluster off to the side. Thank you to everyone for a great first weekend and looking forward to seeing you all on snow this week!

Coach Assignments

Good morning coaches!

Something that Will, Kent and I wanted to implement this season was an opportunity for “ALL” coaches to set and run a session during the 8-week program. I have completed a tentative schedule for league coaches for Wednesday and Thursday evenings, please read: Coach setting assignment 2012- updated Jan 2, 2012.

Let me explain further:

1. Set-up crew works from 4:30-6:30pm to set-up the banner, netting, etc…

2. Coaches who’s name appears for that night will be responsible for:

– Sending me via email your lesson plans (including the set you will be doing) by the due date indicated in the attached file above. Please make sure that you chat with all the other coaches training that night and incorporate their training needs into your plan.

– Coming at least 1/2 an hour early (6pm) to set the course with the help of the set-up crew.

– Run an on-snow session with all the coaches from 6:30-7:00pm where you will be explaining the focus for the evening and where your set fits in.

– Responsible for running a debrief session at the end of the night (9:30-9:45pm) in the clubhouse while folks change to head home. Please cover how your plan was executed, its success, comments on how teams and coaches were doing with the set… any changes you made or would have made throughout the night, etc…

And that is all.

Pretty simple right? This way, everyone has the opportunity to set and run a session which will help with your coach development. If you need any help with developping your lesson, please make use of the reference materials in the clubhouse (on the shelves near the projector screen) or ask myself, Kent or Will for assistance. A reminder that your lesson/plan for the night including your discipline of choice must be emailed me to by the Sunday night prior to your week assigned- this way I can compile a training plan for the week and include it on the weekly update both on the coach and parents blog.

Any questions, please ask? if you are unavailable for your week, let me know and I can make some changes. Please note that any further changes to this document will be made and the most current version will be saved under the “docs to go section”.

Thanks!

emilie

Weekly Update: December 21, 2011

Good morning coaches!

Let me start off my apologizing for a delayed weekly update- I will do my best to have these up on Mondays for consistency. Hope everyone is doing well- I know many of you are done exams and hopefully almost done your Christmas shopping (as the malls are CRAZY nowadays!). A few updates for this week:

  • Opening date for Glen Eden: I know some of you are aware that GE has delayed their opening date to December 26th- this decision was made to preserve their snow making efforts. For more information on snow condition, check out their website www.gleneden.on.ca or see my post on the “parent’s blog” for some pictures of snow coverage http://mhrcinfo.wordpress.com/2011/12/21/christmas-camp-for-league-racers-day-1/. So what does this mean for us? Glen Eden’s snow-making crew has been working night and day and extremly hard to make snow during every possible opportunity and I am confident that we will have a fair amount of open terrain to work with on day 1 of camp. So bottom line- don’t worry… we will be skiing on the 26th!
  • Congrats! To all the newly “trained” EL coaches! Looking forward to having you as part of our team  this season!
  • Coats and Passes: Some of you have been sending me panic emails asking “when you will be getting your season’s pass?!!” No worries, Visitor’s services are printing all coaches and apprentice passes as I am typing this post and I will have them available for you on day 1. Coats on the other hand will be available for pick-up for coaches and apprentices on December 29th. I am awaiting some more information regarding times- as soon as I have this info, I’ll spread the word!
  • Licensing Credits: I received an updated file from Jennifer from the snow school with information on who is and isn’t licensed for 2011-12 season… I sent out an email last night to all of you who appear to still be “unlicensed” for the season. A reminder that you have until the end of the week to provide Jenn and I this information via email (snowschool@gleneden.on.ca) in order to be working this season.
  • Start time on day 1: I would like to request that ALL coaches who are working December 26th (this is all league coaches) to be in the clubhouse for 7:45am on December 26. Start time for 26th will go as follows: Assessments will take place from 8:45-9:30am and camp will run from 9:30am-3:00pm with 1/2 lunch. We will discuss who is taking lunch when,  on Monday morning during our meeting. It is imperative for everyone to be in the clubhouse at this time (7:45am)- we have a LOT of information to cover since our last time together.
  • Christmas Camp Teams: Coordinators are working on christmas camp team lists (if you are curious how the teams are formed- it is completely random using a formula) and will be emailing them to you by the end of the week. A reminder that teams will be rotating in order to provide racers the opportunity to ski at least 1 day with every coach at their league level- I will communicate to you how this change will work.
  • Your team: You are probably wondering “when you will find out which team you are coaching? ” Great question! Just as we will be posting the teams on Jan 1st at 12noon on the blog http://mhrcinfo.wordpress.com we will be posting coache allocations  at the same time. Keeping this information quiet until the 1st of Jan will ensure that all racers and coaches are treated the same during camp.

I believe that is all for now. If you have any questions about this information, don’t hesitate to contact me directly. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and see you on Boxing Day!

Emilie

Week 7 update- sorry for it being late…

Hi Team,

Finally, I am able to send out this week’s update. So sorry folks for the delay; we moved this weekend and didn’t have internet access other than on my phone until last night. Plus I was burried in between boxes- so this morning back at work, I finally have a chance to send out the schedule for the week! Hope everyone is doing well. Again, this past weekend, we had some pretty amazing results! Congrats to all teams who continue to remain undefeated and to those who fought a great battle on the weekend as well! Great reults continue for MHRC and I look forward to see what Semi’s has in stores for us!

Without any further delay- this week’s schedule:

Tuesday- TNT night! we will be setting 2 GS courses-0ne on race hill & other on old t-bar lane

Wednesday- we will be setting on our race hill–> we will most likely be training Full gate SL-unless there is a change in the discipline for semis (which I hope to find out/confirm soon)- 2 FULL gate courses (one inside and other oustide of the tower)

Thursday- we will train Kombi for NG on OLD t-bar lane and ____ for the K1’s on race hill (depends on what AOS tells us semis will be..)

Friday- GS training away at Moonstone for NG and K1’s.

Saturday/Sunday is currently unknown until we hear about the semi/hosting schedule. JHL will train as usual on Saturday morning.

As soon as I hear from AOS, I will post the info for the upcoming weekend on the blog-so make sure that you check back often!

Have a good week all and stay away from all the rain that they are calling for!

Drive Safely

Hi all. in case you haven’t been following the weather, we are supposed to get DUMPED with snow and high blowing winds + white out conditions- that being said, if you do not feel that it is safe for you to get to work, please do not risk you life for training/working. If for some reason or another you cannot make it tonight or tomorrow–> send me an email/text or a quick phone call so I know.

thanks!

Update Week #5

Hi Coaches! another great and successful weekend done- congrats to all the teams who did very well at their races! Another great weekend for MHRC racers and coaches- great job to all! Thanks to coaches who helped run (Rick and Ian) a great training session last Friday at Moonstone! 52 gates were brought up and they all made it in the ground- oh the joy of having a longer run to train on! Great day- thanks to athletes and coaches for helping in the day’s great success!

This week’s update, yes I know a little late… sorry about that- weekend got away from me!

Tonight- Appleby Racing – coaches are Chloe and Dylan

Tomorrow-Tuesday- ADULT TNT race #2. Set-up crew, please set FULL gate GS on race hill and full nets (for timing) and stubbie GS on boomerang for training in between timed runs). If coaches can be in the clubhouse (TNT coaches) for 6:30pm that would be great, we can organize registrations then.

Wednesday- Training will be SL and GS for racers. Set-up crew please set SL on race hill and GS on boomerang. The brower timing system works, let’s plan on having someone set-it up for boomerang. I will be inside meeting with race committee and all involved in the ALL star race on the weekend.

Thursday evening- Training will be GS and SL, please set-up SL FULL  gates and GS full gate on race hill, one course inside and the other outside of the tower.

Sat- The only teams home will be DD’s and JHL- this will be our 1st JHL TIMED race, all coaches (including apprentices and JHL coaches) should be on snow for 8:30am to help set for the morning. DD’s will also be participating in the race- should be a good morning:)

Sunday- We are hosting all stars for J’s this day. coaches who are scheduled to help me out for the day: Heidi, Rick, Scott, Kent, Will. If anyone else is available, please send me an email as I am currently judging how much help we need. Coaches, please meet at the top of sidewinder for 6am (I know that means we have to hike… BUT we must set all safety net before the lift opens…) I’ll bring a breakfast treat for everyone:)

That’s all folks. So have another fantastic week and thanks again for doing a GREAT job! watch out for those 30 cm of snow we are supposed to get tonight! OH and to all you HS racing coaches, last week of training is next week so remember to meet coach Ian on snow for 6:30pm! cheers!

Evals- reminder

Coaches, a reminder that evals are due this week and that you should be giving a copy to your team leader before handing them out! Thursday evening coaches, please meet your team leader in the Clubhouse this evening at 6:30pm to show them your evals! thanks/see you then!

Update, start of week 4

Hi everyone

Congrats again on a job well done to all the MHRC teams this weekend- we again achieved some pretty amazing results! Hats off to coaches and athletes for doing such a great job! Keep it up guys. So we are hitting the mid point- this is usually when we start getting tired and start “slacking off” so let’s keep up the momentum. Please continue to email your coordinators/managers your start list way ahead of time (i.e. latest on Monday evening of the week before) to spare them the energy and effort of going after you. Continue to keep your teams informed of what equipment to bring for training during the week as well as details for the weekend’s race. A reminder, that evals are due this week, they MUST be looked at by your team leader before being handed out (NG- Kent, K1- Brook, K2-Ian and J- Rick). If you need help with these, look at my previous post for more info.

Here’s this week’s udpate:

Monday night (tonight)- Appleby College Training (Ian, Scott & Connor?)- Full SL course from 5-7pm on race hill. Coaches interested in some extra training, please meet me on snow for 7pm at the top of the race course for re-set and please stick around until the end to help with teardown.

Tuesday night- TNT- Full gate SL on old T-Bar Lane and GS full gate on Race hill, set-up crew- Ian, Kyle and Scott?

Wednesday night- K2/J Training- SL and GS full course on race hill

Thursday night- K1/NG Training- 2 hills- GS on Boomerang (FULL Gate) & PAN SL and stubbie SL on race hill (2 HILLS)- set-up crew Chloe, Tyler + Scott?

Friday– away training- SL for K2/J. If you are registered please meet at the chalet at the base of Moonstone for 8:30am. we need to arrange lift tickets, etc… Training will wrap-up around 3pm. Coaches are myself, Rick and Ian.

Saturday- the only groups home is JHL- coaches and apprentices meet Will and I at the gate cabana for 8:30am for set-up. We will also set full gate SL for JHL coaches and apprentices interested in some extra gate training:)

Sunday– White team is home and we are hosting a K2 GS for group 7- if you are available and would like to come and volunteer yourself to gate keep that day, we would really appreciate it as we are low on helpers with all other teams away racing.

That’s all folks and to wrap-up; I leave you with Developing GS turn technique using S Turns that Rick sent us, enjoy.  Oh and a gentle reminder that I will be entering payroll tomorrow evening so please make sure it is all in for the past 2 weeks of pay! thanks!
